Pune: Dacoit Attacks Pimpri Chinchwad Cops with Machete, Injured DCP Fires in Retaliation

Pune, March 3: A dramatic late-night encounter in Pimpri Chinchwad left two police officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivaji Pawar, injured after a dacoity suspect attacked them with a machete. The incident took place around 1 am on Monday in Chinchoshi village, where the police had set a trap to nab two absconding criminals.
DCP Pawar, along with his team, had received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the suspects, Sachin Bhosale and Mithun Bhosale, who were wanted in a dacoity and robbery case. As the police moved in for the arrest, Sachin Bhosale suddenly attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon, injuring DCP Pawar and Assistant Police Inspector (API) Prasanna Jahad.
In self-defense, DCP Pawar fired two rounds from his service pistol, hitting Sachin Bhosale in the leg. However, the second accused, Mithun Bhosale, managed to flee the scene. All the injured individuals, including the officers and the accused, are currently undergoing medical treatment.
A case has been registered at Chakan Police Station against the accused under Sections 109, 132, and 121 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
Notably, DCP Shivaji Pawar played a key role in the initial investigation of the Elgar Parishad case linked to the Koregaon Bhima violence of January 1, 2018, when he was posted as ACP in Pune City. He is currently serving as the DCP of Zone 3 in Pimpri Chinchwad Police.
The police are actively investigating the case, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding accused, Mithun Bhosale.
