Kadam, a hotel cook in Pune’s Baner area, was returning from Khamgaon, Daund, on February 27 after dropping off Dandage at her relative’s home when a group of men intercepted him near Sai Misal Hotel. The attackers beat him with wooden sticks and threatened to kill him if he married Dandage.

Following an investigation, the Pune rural police arrested five men in connection with the assault: Aditya Shankar Dandage (19), Sandip Dada Gawade (40), Shivaji Ramdas Jare (32), Indrabhan Sakharam Kolpe (37), and Suraj Digambar Jadhav (36), all residents of Ahilyanagar. However, as the probe progressed, police discovered that Dandage herself had allegedly paid ₹1.5 lakh to the gang to eliminate Kadam, as she was unwilling to marry him.

Senior Police Inspector Narayan Deshmukh confirmed that Dandage has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections for attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, and wrongful restraint. She remains absconding, while Assistant Police Inspector Mahesh Mane leads the ongoing investigation.
