Pune: Cholera Threat Averted in Pimpri Chinchwad as All Patients Recover

Pimpri Chinchwad, 29th June 2024: Before the Zika threat in Pune, the people of Pimpri Chinchwad faced a cholera threat. The good news for the residents of Pimpri Chinchwad is that all ten cholera patients have recovered successfully. Furthermore, no new cases have been reported, as confirmed by Dr. Laxman Gophane, Medical Officer of the Health Department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

The cholera patients received treatment at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri, New Bhosari Hospital, and New Thergaon Hospital, all managed by PCMC. The first cholera case was detected on 8th June in Dhawade Wasti of Bhosari. Following a survey conducted by PCMC, two new cases were found on 11th June, and four more on 14th June. By 17th June, three additional cases had been identified, bringing the total number of cholera patients in the PCMC jurisdiction to ten.

In response to the initial case, a surveillance team was formed, comprising 44 teams of two members each. These teams have surveyed almost 27,000 residents to date. Among them, 166 suspected patients displaying symptoms were identified, received proper medication, and have since recovered. Additionally, 76 people who came into contact with the ten confirmed patients are being closely monitored, and none have shown symptoms so far.
