Pune: Bibwewadi Police Seize 50 Reels of Banned Nylon Manja, One Arrested
Pune, January 13, 2025: Bibwewadi Police Station, Pune City, seized 50 reels of prohibited plastic nylon synthetic manja and arrested one person for violating environmental and safety regulations. The seizure was conducted to prevent harm to birds and humans caused by the banned manja.
The crackdown was in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act, 1986, and the prohibitory order dated January 4, 2025, issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch, Pune City. The order, effective from January 4 to February 2, 2025, prohibits the possession, sale, and use of plastic nylon synthetic manja in Pune City.
Following senior officials’ directives to search for sellers of the banned Chinese manja, Police Sub-Inspector and staff from Bibwewadi Police Station acted on a tip-off from Police Officer Sumit Takpere. They apprehended Prithviraj Rajesh Mhaske, aged 23. He was found in an abandoned room at Chaitraban Vasahat, near Zende’s house, in possession of 50 reels of nylon synthetic manja of various colors, intended for sale.
A case has been registered against Mhaske under Bibwewadi Police Station Crime Reg. No. 03/2025 under Sections 223, 125 of the Code of BNS 2023 and Section 5.15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
