Pune: APMC Mango Festival at 4 Locations Draws Huge Crowds; Continues Till May 31

Pune, 29 April: The Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board has organized the ‘Mango Festival 2025’ across four locations in Pune — Market Yard, Gandhi Bhavan-Kothrud, Magarpatta-Hadapsar, and Kharadi. The festival, which began recently, has been receiving an overwhelming response from customers and will continue until May 31, 2025.
So far, around 45,000 dozen mangoes have been sold, generating a turnover of approximately ₹4 crore, according to the Agricultural Marketing Board.
The festival showcases the renowned Hapus (Alphonso) mango, which carries the Geographical Indication (GI) certification from districts such as Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad, Palghar, and Thane. Other varieties like Kesar, Pairi, and locally grown mangoes from across Maharashtra are also available for sale.
Previously, mangoes from other states were sometimes misleadingly sold as Konkani Hapus, leading to consumer deception. However, the introduction of GI certification has now effectively prevented such frauds. In light of this, only farmers with GI-certified produce are permitted to participate in the festival.
At the Market Yard location, 60 stalls have been set up, while Gandhi Bhavan-Kothrud, Magarpatta-Hadapsar, and Kharadi each have 20 stalls, totaling 120 stalls allocated to 150 mango producers for direct sales. Mangoes are sold with GI and UID tags, ensuring authenticity and enabling farmers to earn better prices.
Festival visitors can buy varieties like Hapus, Kesar, Pairi, and Bitki (a smaller-sized mango). Mangoes weighing approximately 175 to 300 grams each are priced between ₹400 to ₹800 per dozen, as informed by Mr. Kadam from the Agricultural Marketing Board.
