Pune and Mumbai are currently experiencing unusual weather patterns, with Pune witnessing chilly mornings followed by scorching daytime heat, while Mumbai braces for a heatwave. On Thursday, March 6, Pune’s Lohgaon recorded the highest maximum temperature of 38°C, while Talegaon and Haveli saw the lowest minimum temperature of 12°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a slight rise in both maximum and minimum temperatures over the next two days across Pune city and district.

Over the past two days, Pune’s minimum temperatures have dropped significantly, from 17°C to 12°C, resulting in cool nights and early mornings. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures have risen by 1°C to 1.5°C, intensifying daytime heat. Areas like Chinchwad, Magarpatta, NDA, Shivajinagar, and Pashan recorded temperatures ranging from 36.6°C to 38°C.

In Mumbai, the IMD has issued a heatwave warning for March 9 and 10, with temperatures expected to soar above 38°C. This marks the second heatwave alert for Mumbai in two weeks, with meteorologists attributing the rising temperatures to an anticyclone system in the Maharashtra region. On Thursday, Mumbai’s Colaba observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 35.3°C, exceeding the normal by over five degrees.

The fluctuating weather in Pune and the impending heatwave in Mumbai have made it challenging for residents to adapt. Residents in both cities are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses as they brace for extreme weather conditions.
