Pune, February 27: Residents of Pune and several parts of Maharashtra can expect a slight relief from soaring daytime temperatures over the next few days. However, due to high relative humidity (RH), the real-feel temperature will remain uncomfortable across the state. Meanwhile, Konkan, which has been reeling under a heatwave, is likely to see a temporary respite as temperatures drop for about 72 hours.

High Humidity to Make Days Feel Hotter Across Maharashtra

Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather forecasting at IMD Pune, stated that an active western disturbance (WD) is currently bringing moisture from the Arabian Sea into northwest India and the Western Himalayan region. Additionally, Maharashtra is expected to receive some moisture from the Bay of Bengal, which will slightly reduce maximum temperatures. However, with high humidity levels, the actual perceived heat will remain high, particularly in cities like Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur.

Extended Weather Outlook for Maharashtra

KS Hosalikar, former IMD Pune head, shared the extended-range temperature forecast, highlighting varied trends across different regions in Maharashtra:

  • Weeks 1 & 2: Interior Maharashtra, including Pune, may witness below-normal maximum temperatures initially. However, a gradual rise is expected towards the end of this period.
  • Weeks 3 & 4: Temperatures in some parts of Madhya Maharashtra are likely to increase, with heat intensifying in the later weeks.

Temporary Relief for Konkan, But Heat May Persist

While most of Maharashtra will continue to experience humid conditions, the Konkan region—currently facing excessive heat—will see a short-lived respite. Temperatures in coastal areas, including Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, are expected to drop slightly over the next three days. However, the extended forecast suggests that Konkan will remain warmer than usual over the next four weeks.

With fluctuating temperatures and rising humidity, residents across Maharashtra are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to heat, especially during peak afternoon hours.
