In a major development aimed at easing traffic congestion on Pune’s Nagar Road, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed the Pune Municipal Commissioner to immediately remove the incomplete Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor. Pawar has also instructed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to extend the upcoming two-tier flyover from Wagholi all the way to Viman Nagar, rather than terminating it at Wagholi.

This significant decision was made during a recent meeting chaired by Pawar to address water scarcity in Vadgaon Sheri and traffic problems on Nagar Road. The meeting was attended by former Vadgaon Sheri MLA Sunil Tingre, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, Additional Commissioner Pradeep Chandran, City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, Water Supply Department Head Nandkumar Jagtap, and several former corporators including Usha Kalmakar, Narayan Galande, Dnyaneshwar Shinde, Balabhau Parhad, and Manoj Pachpute.

MLA Sunil Tingre Raises Traffic Concerns

During the meeting, Sunil Tingre expressed concerns about the severe traffic congestion and increasing accidents caused by the incomplete BRT corridor between Somnath Nagar Chowk and Kharadi Bypass Chowk. He urged immediate removal of the partially constructed BRT lane to prevent further mishaps. Acting on this, Pawar ordered the municipal commissioner to remove the BRT corridor without delay, and the commissioner assured immediate action.

Flyover Extension to Viman Nagar Approved

Further strengthening the traffic management plan, Pawar called Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sujata Saini and instructed her to extend the planned Shirur-Wagholi two-tier flyover right up to Phoenix Mall in Viman Nagar. He also directed the PMC to issue the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project.

Free Tanker Service to Resolve Water Supply Issues

Residents of Vadgaon Sheri, Ganesh Nagar, Somnath Nagar, Kharadi, and Viman Nagar recently faced severe water shortages. There were also complaints about tanker drivers charging citizens for water supply. To resolve this, Pawar instructed the PMC to clearly mark water tankers as “Free Tankers” and ensure regular water supply is restored at the earliest.

Immediate Approval for MHADA Housing Board Project in Yerawada

In another important decision, a delegation from the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) requested urgent approval for the redevelopment of the Housing Board project in Yerawada. Pawar assured that instructions would be given to the concerned departments to expedite the necessary approvals and allow the project to proceed without further delays.

These decisions highlight the government’s proactive approach to resolving Pune’s key infrastructure challenges, particularly in traffic management, water supply, and housing development.
