Pune: 8 Major Infra Projects to Transform City with New Expressways, Metro, and Ropeways

Pune is set for a major infrastructure overhaul with multiple projects approved and progressing rapidly. Here’s a look at eight key developments shaping the city’s future:
1️⃣ New Expressway Between JNPT and Chowk
- A 6-lane, 30 km expressway has been approved by the Central Government.
- This will improve connectivity between Pune and Mumbai, reducing travel time and congestion.
2️⃣ New Pune Airport at Purandar
- The Maharashtra government has notified the area for the upcoming Pune Airport at Purandar.
- Survey and land acquisition will begin soon, pushing the long-pending project forward.
3️⃣ Nigdi-Chakan Metro Progress
- The DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the Nigdi-Chakan Metro will be ready by April 2025.
- The metro will pass through Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Nashik Phata, Bhosari, and Moshi, improving public transit options.
4️⃣ Kalyan-Shirur Alternative Route
- A 135 km alternative route from Kalyan to Shirur via Karjat and Khed is awaiting State Cabinet approval.
- This new corridor will reduce traffic on the Talegaon-Chakan-Shirkrapur highway.
5️⃣ Pune-Shirur 6-Lane Elevated Corridor
- The bidding process opens on April 1st, and construction is expected to start by mid-2025.

- The Triveninagar section of the Spine Road is almost complete.
- This will improve traffic flow towards Talawade, Nigdi, and the Nashik highway.
8️⃣ New Flyover Ramp for Pimpri-Chinchwad
- The ramp connecting Pimpri-Chinchwad Link Road to Mother Teresa Flyover is in its final stage.
- Once completed, it will provide direct connectivity from Pimpri & Chinchwad to Chikhali, reducing congestion in the area.
