Pune: 6 Roads Being Developed to Enhance Connectivity to Purandar International Airport

Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated a ₹636.84 crore project to develop six roads, totaling 61 km, for improved connectivity to the proposed Purandar International Airport. The airport, set to be operational by March 2029, is being prioritized for enhanced access from various parts of Pune.
The March 2029 deadline was established in a recent meeting between Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The current Lohegaon airport, primarily a defense facility, has limited capacity for commercial operations, necessitating the development of an alternative airport.
The Purandar airport project had previously faced opposition, similar to an earlier proposal in Chakan. The state government has now expedited land acquisition and infrastructure development efforts.
Key Road Development Projects:
- Uruli Kanchan to Jejuri (15 km) – ₹174 crore
- Saswad to Pargaon Chaufula (10.5 km) – ₹91.35 crore
- Bopdeo Ghat Road (19.5 km) – ₹130.50 crore
- Khed Shivapur to Saswad (16 km) – ₹139.20 crore
- Existing roads near the airport area – ₹106.14 crore
Additionally, connectivity will be enhanced through the Dive Ghat Road (NHAI) and a road from Kapurhol (Pune-Satara Highway) to Saswad being developed by the Public Works Department.
Yogesh Mhase, PMRDA Commissioner, confirmed that these roads will link the proposed airport to major state and national highways, ensuring smooth access for passengers and cargo operations.
