Pune: 1.5-Year-Old Toddler Crushed by Reversing Water Tanker in Warje, Driver Arrested

A tragic incident in Pune’s Warje area claimed the life of a 1.5-year-old boy after he was run over by a reversing water tanker on Saturday evening. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Sunny Pyare Baraskar, has been arrested by the police.
The accident occurred around 7:30 PM when Baraskar was reversing the tanker after delivering water to a residential society in Ganpati Matha. Despite warnings from local residents who spotted the toddler behind the vehicle, Baraskar allegedly continued driving in reverse, crushing the child under the wheels.
The victim, Adokshak Mahesh Wavale, was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead. Warje police have booked Baraskar under sections 105 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Senior Police Inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade confirmed that the tanker has been seized, and a medical test of the accused driver has been conducted. Baraskar, a native of Bhopal, resides in Pune’s Dattawadi. Sub-Inspector Sanjay Narale is leading the ongoing investigation.
