Police Sub Inspector Found Dead Near Tiger Point in Lonavala; Suicide Suspected

Pune: Anna Gunjal (35), a police sub-inspector at the Khadki police station, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at Shivling Point, near the famous Tiger Point in Lonavla, approximately 75 kilometers from the city.
The authorities were unable to determine the cause for his drastic actions and said that they had not recovered any suicide note from his possession.
On Friday morning, a local discovered a body hanging and reported it to the police control room.
Police inspector Kishor Dhumal of the Lonavla rural police said, “About 100 meters into the forest area near Tiger Point, the officer parked his SUV and died by suicide by hanging himself from a tree. We suspect that it is a two-day-old body. We have not found any document or suicide note at the site.”
“We have found his cellphone, diary, etc., in his vehicle. These items will be examined in detail. After a post-mortem, the body will be handed over to his family,” Dhumal said.
Gunjal was posted at the police station for the last two years. He did not report to duty since Feb 3 and his cellphone was out of reach, said a police official of the station.
Gunjal hailed from a village in Sangamner tehsil in the Ahilyanagar district. The police did not provide details about his family.
