Pune, 13th March 2025: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced the implementation of an automated ‘Next Stop Announcement’ system across its bus fleet to enhance commuter convenience, particularly for senior citizens, visually impaired passengers, and disabled individuals.

With audio recordings for over 4,000 bus stops nearing completion, officials confirmed that system trials will commence shortly.

Unlike metros, railways, and airports where automated announcements are standard, PMPML buses have historically lacked this feature, forcing vulnerable passengers to depend on fellow travelers or risk missing stops. The new real-time audio system, integrated with existing GPS technology, will announce upcoming stops and sync with the PMPML mobile app for route tracking. Modern speakers will ensure clarity, minimizing disputes between passengers and drivers over missed destinations.

PMPML’s 472 routes across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA limits will feature the upgrade, aiming to improve accessibility for the city’s 4,300 bus stops. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to streamline public transport, offering passengers greater independence and a seamless commuting experience.
