PMC halts construction on proposed monorail project in Thorat Udyan, Kothrud
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a significant step by halting construction on the proposed monorail project at the Late Tatyasaheb Thorat Udyan in Kothrud. This decision follows persistent advocacy from MP Vandana Chavan and many garden enthusiasts.
According to the PMC order, which addresses the “permanent cancellation of the proposed monorail project in Thorat Udyan, Kothrud, Pune,” concerns raised by Chavan and other garden enthusiasts resulted in two letters urging the cancellation of the monorail project. Complaints about the permanent cancellation of the proposed project were then forwarded to the Garden Department for further action.
Furthermore, in accordance with the directives issued by the additional municipal commissioner (Estate), Pune Municipal Corporation, the approved contractor for the project has been served a ‘work suspension notice,’ resulting in the halting of all ongoing work associated with the monorail project.
Jayant Bosekar, deputy commissioner of the PMC motor vehicles department, explained the decision, saying, “Following extensive discussions with the PMC commissioner, a stay has been imposed on the construction of the monorail project in Kothrud’s Thorat Udyan. The matter of permanent cancellation will be discussed further with the PMC commissioner, and a decision will be made accordingly.”
