PM Internship Scheme: Last Date to Apply is March 31; PMIS App Launched to Access Internship Opportunities

In a significant move to boost youth employability and bridge the gap between education and industry needs, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched a dedicated mobile application for the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) on Monday. The app, designed to simplify access to internship opportunities, features an intuitive interface, Aadhaar-based face authentication for registration, and real-time updates for users.
During the launch event, Sitharaman emphasized the transformative potential of the scheme, which aims to provide one crore internships over the next five years. “The PM Internship Scheme is not just about employment; it’s about empowering our youth with the skills and experience they need to thrive in the modern workforce,” she said. The minister also called on industries to actively participate, highlighting their role in nation-building and creating a skilled workforce.
The PMIS app offers a personalized dashboard where users can browse opportunities based on location and preferences. A unique referral program allows registered candidates to refer others and earn rewards, further incentivizing participation. The scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, provides 12-month paid internships with a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 and a one-time financial support of ₹6,000.
The pilot phase of the scheme, launched in October 2024, has already seen remarkable success. Over 1.27 lakh internship opportunities were posted in the first round, with 82,000 offers extended to candidates. The second round, which began in January 2025, has expanded further, with 327 companies posting 1.18 lakh opportunities across diverse sectors like automobile, banking, hospitality, and IT.
To ensure wider reach, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has organized over 80 outreach events at educational institutions and Rozgar Melas nationwide. The PMIS portal has also been revamped to provide detailed information about available roles, making it easier for candidates to apply.
With the application window for Round II open until March 31, 2025, eligible youth aged 21-24 are encouraged to seize this opportunity. The PMIS app and portal (https://pminternship.mca.gov.in/) are now live, offering a gateway to skill development and career growth.
