Now You’ll See Caller’s Real Name from Aadhaar on Incoming Calls – Jio, Airtel & Vi to Roll Out New Feature

In a major move to combat spam and fraud calls, Indian telecom giants Jio, Airtel, and Vi are set to introduce the Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) feature, which will display the caller’s name as per their Aadhaar-linked KYC details. This means when you receive a call, the screen will show the caller’s registered name instead of just their number, reducing reliance on third-party apps like Truecaller.
How Will CNAP Work?
The feature will fetch the caller’s name directly from their Aadhaar or other KYC documents, ensuring authenticity. Telecom companies are collaborating with tech firms like HP, Dell, Ericsson, and Nokia to implement this system. The rollout will happen in phases, so not all users will get it immediately.
Why Is This Important?
With rising spam and scam calls, CNAP aims to provide a safer and more transparent calling experience. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had recommended this feature in February 2024, and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has now directed telecom operators to fast-track its implementation.
This update is expected to reduce fraud and unwanted marketing calls, giving users more control over who they engage with.
