No Need to Search for Modi’s Successor: CM Fadnavis Responds to Raut’s Claim

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has dismissed speculation over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s retirement, stating that there is “no need to search” for his successor. Fadnavis affirmed that Modi will continue to lead and hold office even in 2029.
His remarks came in response to Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut’s claim that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is preparing to pick Modi’s successor. Raut suggested that Modi’s recent visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur signaled his intention to step down, aligning with the supposed practice of BJP leaders retiring at the age of 75. Modi will turn 75 in September this year.
Refuting the claims, Fadnavis said, “There is no need to search for his successor. He (Modi) is our leader and will continue.” He further dismissed speculation that the successor might emerge from Maharashtra, adding, “In our culture, when the father is alive, it is inappropriate to talk about succession. That is Mughal culture. The time has not come to discuss it.”
Meanwhile, senior RSS leader Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi, who was also in Nagpur, denied any knowledge of discussions regarding Modi’s replacement.
Raut, however, pointed out that this was Modi’s first visit to the RSS headquarters in 11 years, suggesting a shift in BJP-RSS relations. His comments have sparked fresh political debates as the country gears up for the upcoming elections.
