Mumbai is all set to witness a significant milestone in its transportation infrastructure with the launch of its first underground metro. The highly anticipated Mumbai Underground Metro, specifically the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro 3 line, will commence operations on July 24.

The Mumbai Underground Metro will officially start on July 24, 2024. This date marks the opening of the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ underground metro line to the public, a development that promises to enhance the daily commute for Mumbaikars.

The Metro 3 line, spanning 33.5 km, has faced multiple delays since its inception in 2016. Despite these setbacks, the first phase is finally set to open, running from Aarey to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

Operating Schedule and Features

The Mumbai Underground Metro will operate daily from 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM. Trains will run at a speed of 90 km per hour, ensuring a fast and efficient commute with trains available every few minutes. The BKC station is particularly notable, being the largest in India and among the longest in the world. According to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Executive Director Suyash Trivedi, two trains will be able to pass through the tunnel simultaneously, and commuters at BKC will not need to cross roads to access the station, significantly enhancing convenience.
