Mumbai to witness 22 high tides above 4.5 meters during monsoon 2024, BMC issues alert

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an alert saying that this monsoon Mumbai will witness 22 high tides with waters surging over 4.5 meters. These high tides are expected between June and September 2024. The highest tides, reaching 4.84 meters, are expected at 1:03 am on September 20.

According to BMC, June will witness high tides above 4.5 meters on seven days. There would be four such days in July, five days in August and six days in September. The highest tides, reaching 4.84 meters, are expected at 1:03 am on September 20.

It is worth noting that heavy rains coincide with high tides submerge low-lying areas of Mumbai. Such areas get flooded heavily, and cause a multitude of problems including vector borne diseases.

In view of that, BMC has advised people for abiding by the guidelines while visiting the beaches during the monsoon.
