MakeMyTrip’s new tech driven features enhance your options while planning and booking train travel
MakeMyTrip, will provide tech-driven features to enhance the experience while booking and travelling on Indian trains, the company said in a press release.
MakeMyTrip has introduced the ‘Seat Lock’ feature, which will allow passengers to book a confirmed ticket by paying 25% of the ticket fare and the remaining amount can be paid 24 hours prior to the journey. This feature has been introduced to address the problem of uncertain plans and to reduce wait list passengers.
Further, MakeMyTrip app will suggest connecting trains or buses considering layover time and overall travel duration in case there are no direct trains to a particular destination.
“We are committed to enriching train travel and ensuring every journey is a memorable experience on MakeMyTrip. We looked at the entire thread of train travel – from planning and identifying the right train, to the actual purchase experience and all the way through to pre-arrival stages,” said Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO, MakeMyTrip.

Additionally, MakeMyTrip will also provide a ‘Route Extension Assistance’ feature. This feature offers alternative options when seats are unavailable on a preferred route. For instance, if a passenger can’t find a confirmed seat from station A to B, the algorithm suggests an option from station A to C on the same train, enabling the passenger to disembark at station B which falls in the route of the suggested train, the company said in the release.
It also offers the ‘Nearby Stations Recommendations’ that suggests trains from stations within a few kilometres’ radius when tickets are unavailable from the chosen station.
“With the introduction of our new interventions at every step of the train booking and travel journey, we remain committed to empower travellers with choice, flexibility, and peace of mind, setting a new standard for effortless, convenient, and enjoyable train travel,” said Magow.
The company now also offers a convenient cancellation policy, giving customers the flexibility to change their travel plans without worrying about high cancellation fees.
Passengers can schedule food delivery to their seats from multiple restaurant options using the Food in Train feature. The facility can be availed even after the journey has begun.
The Train Tracking and Platform Locator features give passengers all the information for boarding and deboarding in one place even when phone network is a challenge.
