Maharashtra Weather Update: Heatwave in Vidarbha, Thunderstorms in Marathwada, and Orange Alert for Multiple Locations

Rising Temperatures and Heatwave Conditions

Washim recorded a scorching 40.4°C, the highest in the state, followed closely by Chandrapur at 39.6°C and Akola at 38.2°C. The lowest temperature was reported in Pune at 17.5°C, making it one of the cooler locations. However, residents of Vidarbha need to brace for continued heatwave-like conditions, with high temperatures persisting over the next few days.

Thunderstorms and Rain Likely in Marathwada
Satellite observations at 11:45 AM on March 20 indicated scattered convective thundercloud formations over Marathwada, North Interior Karnataka, and North Telangana. These regions are expected to receive light rainfall in isolated areas over the next 2-3 hours.
Latur district in Maharashtra has already witnessed heavy rainfall and storms, raising concerns over localized disruptions.
Orange Alert Issued for Multiple Regions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for March 21 and 22 across multiple states, indicating the possibility of severe weather conditions. The affected regions include:
- Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal.
- In Vidarbha, hailstorms are likely in isolated areas of Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gondia, and Wardha.
- Strong winds, lightning, and thunderstorms with spells of rain are expected across these regions.

Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and take necessary precautions against lightning and strong winds. Farmers, in particular, should be cautious about crop damage due to hailstorms.
Pune and Mumbai Weather Outlook
- Pune is likely to experience increasing cloud cover over the next 48 hours but remains largely dry.
- Mumbai continues to see warm temperatures around 36.2°C, with no immediate signs of relief from the heat.
