Maharashtra Weather Update: Brace for Scorching Heatwave as IMD Issues High-Temperature Alerts

After weeks of unexpected rain and hailstorms wreaking havoc on crops, Maharashtra is now gearing up for an intense heatwave. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for several districts, including Pune, Nashik, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar, where temperatures could soar past 40°C in the next 48 to 72 hours.
Rising Temperatures Across Multiple Regions
According to IMD scientist K.S. Hosalikar, North Maharashtra and parts of Northwest India will experience severe heat, with Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada seeing a 3°C to 4°C rise in the next two days. Vidarbha, however, may face an even sharper spike—between 4°C and 6°C—over the next five days.
The Konkan region, including Ratnagiri, Palghar, Thane, and Sindhudurg, is under a yellow alert for hot and humid conditions due to easterly winds. While isolated light rain is possible in Sindhudurg, the dominant weather will remain uncomfortably sticky.
Rainfall Alert Persists in Some Areas
Though the unseasonal rain threat has decreased, a yellow alert for light rainfall remains for Latur, Dharashiv, Solapur, Sangli, and Kolhapur on April 5. Pune, Satara, and Ahilyanagar may also see scattered showers.
However, the bigger concern is the looming heatwave. The Regional Meteorological Centre predicts a significant temperature jump starting April 6, urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and take necessary precautions.
