Coca-Cola’s beloved mango drink, Maaza, has not only captured the hearts of millions but has also achieved a monumental milestone—crossing the $1 billion sales mark in 2024. This achievement positions Maaza as the third billion-dollar brand in India for the beverage titan, following Thums Up and Sprite, and underscores the dynamic evolution of the nation’s beverage market.

During a recent post-earnings investor call, James Quincey, Coca-Cola’s Chairman and CEO, remarked on the impressive rebound in India’s business performance. “In India, our business rebounded nicely during the quarter, and we grew volume,” he noted, emphasizing the momentum that has driven Maaza into the billion-dollar club. Beyond this celebration, Quincey highlighted that Maaza now ranks among the company’s 30 global brands that have hit the billion-dollar milestone.

Coca-Cola’s strategic refranchising of its bottling operations has yielded tangible financial gains. In the December quarter alone, the company recorded net gains of $13 million, while cumulative refranchising efforts contributed $303 million over the full year in India. This robust performance was further bolstered by a 2 percent growth in unit case volume during the final quarter—a trend supported by key markets like China, Brazil, and the US.

Adding another layer to its expansive growth narrative, Coca-Cola’s President and CFO, John Murphy, shed light on the company’s ambitious partnership strategy. Reflecting on the 40 percent stake sale of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages to the Jubilant Bhartia Group, Murphy described India as “pretty vibrant, with a tremendous competitive set,” reinforcing the region’s long-term potential. Furthermore, the company has significantly amplified its retail network, with an addition of 440,000 new outlets throughout India in 2024.
