The steps towards creating your own mini limited budget farmhouse are listed with details here. Do remember to checkout the overall cost calculation for the entire project at the end.
Land Procurement
In order to create a farmhouse of your dreams, you do not need acres of land. All you need is a piece of land measuring about 3000 sq. ft on the outskirts of the city with scenic surroundings. There are many plotting schemes available in every city. You need not spend a lot of money on land at a premium location. Any average location with scenic background and road access will be simply fine.
Accommodation
This is where most people make a U-Turn from their farmhouse dreams. The hassles and expenses involved with the construction of a house are a big turnoff, not anymore though! Invest in a prefabricated house depending upon your need instead of constructing one. Prefabricated houses are durable, portable and highly customizable. There are two types of prefabricated house available in the market today.
Custom Made Prefab Houses
These houses are made of fiber and polyurethan foam and are quite durable and weatherproof. You can get them designed by suppliers’ designers and they will deliver and assemble the house at your location within, maybe a month of placing the order.
Shipping Container Houses
More or less the same, with the only difference being they are made out of shipping containers. Luxurious interiors and clever paintwork outside make it hard to tell if you are living in a shipping container.
Both these types of houses come complete with a bathroom, a kitchenette, a living room and the bedroom. These type of houses can easily accommodate a family of four. However, the size can be customized, depending upon your requirement and budget. All you need to do with these houses is to plug in electricity, water, and sewage lines to make it come to life. For wastewater and sewage, you can get a sewage pit dug and it should serve the purpose, in case there is no civic infrastructure for the same on the project site.
Also, if friends or more family members join you on a a trip to your farmhouse, extend your accommodation using all weather tents, air mattresses, and sleeping bags. This is a better option compared to increasing your initial investment by setting up a larger accommodation at your farmhouse. The extra accommodation is going to remain unused most of the time because not every time people are going to join you for the trip.
Water Arrangement
Your piece of land may lack piped water supply because of the remoteness of such land parcels. Afterall that is what you wanted t create!! A place away from the hustle and bustle of the city. So, to ensure you have enough water for everything you would want to do there, install two 10,000 liter water storage tanks wherever you find a suitable place and place a 500-litre water tank on the roof of your prefabricated house. Ask the supplier to give you a reinforced platform on the roof of your prefabricated house to keep the water tank.
The storage tanks can be topped up by a water tanker once in a while whenever they need replenishment. Under normal usage once the bottom storage tanks are filled to capacity, the water should last you around ten weekend trips before you need another tanker of water to fill them up. Buy a small water pump to transfer water from your storage tanks to the overhead tank to ensure you have water on demand in your kitchen and bathroom and for gardening purposes.
Landscaping & Gardening
Do not hire the services of any landscaping professional. Instead, get an earth mover to level the plot and rearrange the boulders aesthetically. Make some flower beds, plant trees, and make pathways using broken tiles, yourself. This will save you a lot of money and you and family can live the pleasure of creating your own farmhouse. Allocate some space for that kitchen gardening you have wanted to have. Grow you own salads, veggies, and herbs. Nothing restricts your imagination.

Power Backup
You might or might not have an electricity connection yet on the property. This should not deter you from creating you dream farmhouse. Invest in a 0.5 KVA sine wave inverter to light up the entire project. These days even refrigerators can work on invertors so no worries on that. Also buy a small portable genset of about 2-3 KVA capacity to recharge the invertor batters and to use heavy equipment if any. You can either buy a new one or look for a used generator somewhere in the second-hand market in your city.
Budget Calculations
Based on the above factors to be considered, here is the total cost sheet for your reference with estimated expenses for a limited budget farmhouse.
All the expenses are estimated figures based on the prices of Year 2022. Actual expenditure may slightly vary, depending upon the city and year of undertaking the project. For a limited budget farmhouse, they work well.
