IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Lucknow as Passenger Dies Mid-Air

In a tragic mid-air incident, an IndiGo flight from Patna to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing in Lucknow after a passenger suffered a fatal medical emergency. The flight, 6E2163, was carrying Satish Chandra Burman, a resident of Nalbari, Assam, who suddenly fell ill during the journey.
Despite immediate intervention from the cabin crew and an emergency diversion to Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (LKO), medical professionals pronounced Burman dead upon arrival. Initial reports suggest he may have suffered a heart attack.
Emergency Protocols Activated
Airlines follow strict procedures for in-flight medical emergencies, with crew trained in basic life support and aircraft equipped with emergency medical kits, including defibrillators. Pilots are authorized to divert flights to the nearest suitable airport when a passenger’s condition becomes critical.
IndiGo has yet to issue an official statement regarding compensation but is expected to comply with aviation regulations.
A Growing Concern in Aviation
This marks the second such incident in a week. On March 21, a 52-year-old passenger was found unresponsive on an Air India flight after landing in Lucknow. Doctors confirmed he had no pulse, and despite emergency care, he was declared dead at a nearby hospital.
Such incidents underscore the challenges of handling medical emergencies at 30,000 feet, where immediate professional medical help is unavailable. Aviation authorities continue to emphasize crew training and emergency preparedness to mitigate risks for passengers with underlying health conditions.
