IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar After Woman Dies Mid-Air

In a tragic incident on Sunday night, an IndiGo Airlines flight travelling from Mumbai to Varanasi had to make an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) airport after an 88-year-old woman passenger onboard fell seriously ill and later passed away.
Medical Emergency Mid-Air
The woman, identified as Sushila Devi from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, was travelling alone and was returning home after undergoing medical treatment in Mumbai. Midway through the journey, she reportedly started feeling unwell.
The cabin crew, noticing her discomfort, immediately informed the flight commander. In coordination with air traffic control, the pilot diverted the aircraft to Aurangabad for an emergency landing around 10 pm.
Doctors Declared Her Dead After Landing
Health personnel were already on standby at the airport when the flight landed. Sushila Devi was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Unfortunately, doctors at GMCH declared her brought dead.
Police officials from MIDC CIDCO police station confirmed that a post-mortem was conducted to determine the exact cause of death. “We are awaiting the report. The woman’s family has already arrived in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar,” said police inspector Gajanan Kalyankar.
An accidental death has been registered in the case, as per standard procedure.
Flight Resumed Journey After Formalities
After completing all necessary formalities and handing over the body to the authorities, the flight resumed its journey to Varanasi. Airport officials confirmed that all other passengers were safe and the emergency was handled as per standard protocols.
