1. Birth Certificate Now Mandatory for Some Applicants

Individuals born on or after October 1, 2023, must submit a birth certificate issued under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. For those born before this date, alternative documents like SSC certificates, PAN cards, or Aadhaar will remain valid.

2. No More Printed Address on Passports

In a move toward digital efficiency, the permanent address will no longer appear on the passport’s last page. Instead, a scannable barcode will store this information, allowing immigration officials to access details securely while protecting privacy.

3. Color-Coded Passport Covers for Easy Identification

The government will introduce color-coded passport covers for quick recognition:

  • White – Government officials
  • Red – Diplomatic personnel
  • Blue – Regular citizens (unchanged)

4. Parents’ Names Removed from Passport

To support diverse family structures, parents’ names will no longer be printed on passports. This change benefits single parents and non-traditional families, ensuring greater inclusivity.

5. More Passport Seva Kendras for Faster Service

The government plans to expand Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) from 442 to 600 over the next five years, reducing wait times and improving accessibility, especially in remote areas.

Why These Changes Matter

With increasing global mobility, these updates aim to:

  • Strengthen identity verification
  • Speed up passport issuance
  • Enhance privacy protections
  • Support modern family dynamics

Applicants are advised to review the official guidelines before submitting their passport applications to avoid delays.
