Heroic Actions of Driver Vijay Kumar Save Lives During Attack on Pilgrims’ Bus in J&K
In a tragic yet heroic event, the brave actions of bus driver Vijay Kumar saved many lives during a terrorist attack on a bus full of pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir. The bus, returning from the Shiv Khori cave shrine and heading to Katra, was traveling on a link road of NH-144A through the dense forests and mountainous terrain of Raesi district.
As the bus, carrying more than forty pilgrims, neared Teryath village around 6 pm on Sunday, terrorists ambushed it, firing indiscriminately from the front. This sudden and ruthless attack resulted in the death of ten people, including the driver, and left thirty-three more injured.
The terrorists, dressed in army-like uniforms, signaled the driver to stop the bus. Sensing danger, Vijay Kumar decided not to stop. Even after being grievously injured by a bullet to the head, he did not stop the bus and tried to steer clear from the situation. Unfortunately, he lost control, and the bus plunged into a gorge. Despite his critical injuries, Vijay Kumar’s decision prevented the terrorists from entering the bus and potentially massacring all the pilgrims on board.
Three shadow groups associated with the banned terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility for the attack. This incident underscores the relentless threats faced by civilians in the region and highlights the incredible bravery of Vijay Kumar, whose quick thinking and sacrifice saved many lives.
