After a brief spell of relief from the scorching heat, temperatures are once again on the rise across Maharashtra. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heatwave to severe heatwave conditions from April 7 to 9 across North, Northwest, and Central India — with parts of Maharashtra very much in the alert zone.

Orange Alert for Gujarat & Rajasthan, Yellow Alert for Konkan

According to IMD, Gujarat and Rajasthan are likely to experience severe heatwave conditions, prompting an orange alert. Meanwhile, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Konkan, and Vidarbha — including Mumbai and Pune — are expected to reel under heatwave conditions. For Konkan, including Mumbai, IMD has issued a yellow alert indicating hot and humid weather till April 9.

Pune Temperatures Climbing Again

In Pune, the recent rainfall had brought temporary relief, pulling down temperatures below 35°C in some parts. But that comfort seems short-lived. On Sunday, Pashan recorded a sweltering 41.4°C — the highest temperature of the season so far. Lohegaon wasn’t far behind at 41°C, marking the third time this season the area has hit this mark. Even the minimim temperatures have climbed significantly leading to warm and restless nights.

The IMD expects Pune’s temperature to hover around 40°C in the coming days, with chances of light rain or thunderstorms only around April 10 or 11.

Vidarbha, Marathwada Sizzle

Elsewhere in the state, the heat is becoming unbearable. Akola was the hottest in Maharashtra on Sunday, touching a blazing 43.2°C — a full 3 degrees above normal. In Marathwada, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (40.2°C) and Parbhani (40.7°C) also reported above-normal temperatures.

Mumbai to Face Hot and Humid Days

Mumbai, too, is staring at sticky and sweaty days ahead. IMD’s forecast says that the coastal city will experience hot and humid conditions till April 9, with the possibility of discomfort increasing due to high minimum temperatures at night.

Isolated Rain in Parts of SE Maharashtra

While most of Maharashtra bakes under the sun, IMD has hinted at isolated rainfall in parts of southeast Maharashtra, particularly around April 9 and 10. But overall, most of the state is in for dry and hot days ahead.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Many Districts

The IMD has issued Yellow Alerts for many districts in Maharashtra between 7th and 9th April 2025, mainly warning of thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rain, and gusty winds in some areas. The alerts are spread across Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha regions, with maximum coverage on 7th and 8th April. While the intensity of the weather activity may slightly reduce on 9th April, isolated places are still expected to experience thunderstorms. People are advised to stay alert, avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms, and follow safety precautions.
