PUNE: The much-anticipated extension of the Pune Metro from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigdi has officially begun, marking a significant milestone in the city’s urban transportation development. This extension, which covers a distance of approximately 4.51 kilometers, is set to benefit residents of Nigdi Pradhikaran and nearby areas by providing a seamless metro travel experience.
Project Details and Timeline
The Pimpri to Nigdi extension is part of the Pune Metro Line 1 project. The Central Government approved this extension on October 23, 2023, and the foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6, 2024. The project is budgeted at Rs 910 crore, and MahaMetro, the agency overseeing the construction, aims to complete it within three years. The detailed plan includes the following key segments:
- PCMC to Chinchwad Station: 1.463 km
- Chinchwad to Akurdi Station: 1.651 km
- Akurdi to Nigdi Station: 1.062 km
- Nigdi Station to Bhakti-Shakti Chowk: 975 meters
Construction Phases
The initial phase of construction includes soil testing and barricading at critical points like Bhakti-Shakti Chowk and Pawale Bridge. Following the soil tests, the route layout will be prepared, and pillar construction will commence. MahaMetro has floated a tender worth Rs 910 crore for this extension, ensuring the project’s swift progress.
First Pile Cap Cast
