General Public Alerted on Fake and Fraudulent E-mails Impersonating Delhi Police and Other Agencies
The general public is being alerted by authorities about a recent surge in fake and fraudulent e-mails designed to defraud individuals. These deceptive emails bear the names, signatures, stamps, and logos of prominent agencies, including Delhi Police Cyber Crime and Economic Offence, Central Economic Intelligence Bureau (CEIB), Intelligence Bureau, and Cyber Cell, Delhi.
Fake Allegations and Deceptive Content
The fraudulent emails come with attachments that falsely accuse recipients of severe criminal activities such as child pornography, pedophilia, cyber pornography, sexual explicit exhibits, and grooming. These fake letters are purportedly signed by Shri Sandeep Khirwar, ADG, Cyber Crime and Economic Offence, Delhi Police Headquarters, New Delhi, and Shri Anupam Prakash, Joint Secretary (COFEPOSA), Central Economic Intelligence Bureau (CEIB). They feature the stamps and logos of CEIB, Intelligence Bureau, and Cyber Cell, New Delhi, adding an illusion of authenticity.
How the Fraud Operates
Fraudsters use various email addresses to send these deceptive emails. The attachment in these emails levels serious allegations against the recipients, attempting to create panic and potentially extort money or information. Authorities have been alerted, and measures are being taken to address this issue.
Warning to the Public
