Dwarka Vishwanath Dokhe Conquers Mt. Everest, first lady police officer from Maharashtra to do so
Police Inspector Dwarka Vishwanath Dokhe scaled the summit of Mount Everest on May 22 to become Maharashtra’s first woman police officer to achieve this rare feat.
Police Inspector Dwarka Vishwanath Dokhe has become the first woman in the Maharashtra Police Force to conquer Mount Everest. Belonging to Srirampur in Ahmednagar district, 49-year-old Dokhe embarked on her journey after being inspired by the book “Saad Deti Him Shikhare,” which ignited her passion for scaling mountains.
Currently serving as a Cybercrime Instructor at the Nashik Police Academy, Dokhe’s passion for mountaineering has been unwavering since 2016, with numerous successful climbs of snow-covered peaks.
Her training included 15 kilometers three times a week, walking on a treadmill with a steep incline, and carrying over 210 kilograms on her back daily, to prepare herself for the challenging expedition. Additionally, she dedicated herself to full-body workouts and climbing the staircase of an eight-story building regularly.
On May 17, 2024, Dokhe began her ascent from Everest Base Camp, escorted by Pasang Sherpa and led by Lakpa Sherpa, the proprietor of an Everest climbing company. She proudly raised the flags of the Maharashtra Police Force and India after five days of arduous climbing, and she sang the national anthem as she reached the summit at 4:10 AM on May 22. She honored her parents by carrying a picture of them as well.
For her determination and rare achievement, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra was all praises for this brave police officer. Here’s what he said on his ‘X’ handle:

Dokhe’s resolve did not waver in the face of setbacks brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Her accomplishment serves as an example that one’s age should never be an obstacle to realizing one’s goals, motivating a great number of people to follow in her footsteps.
Shattering stereotypes and setting records
It’s critical to make sure that all women have the chance to realize their full potential, overcome obstacles, and break records like Dwarka Dokhe on this World Menstrual Hygiene Day. Her famous ascent of Mount Everest serves as a potent reminder of the tenacity and strength of women.
She has become the pride of Maharashtra Police who wrote on their ‘X’ handle:
