Traveling by air in India? Soon, your ticket will come with a crucial link informing you about your rights as a passenger. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed airlines to include a direct link to the passenger charter—detailing entitlements during delays, cancellations, denied boarding, and baggage mishandling – along with flight tickets.

With air travel surging, especially among first-time flyers, DGCA chief Faiz Ahmed Kidwai stressed the need for better passenger awareness. “Airlines must actively communicate passenger rights,” a DGCA official said. The link, available on the aviation ministry’s website, will be shared via SMS, WhatsApp, or embedded in tickets and airline websites.

IndiGo has already taken steps to comply, adding a ‘Click Here’ option under the ‘Notes’ section of bookings, redirecting travelers to the DGCA’s passenger charter. Other carriers are updating their systems to meet the directive.

DGCA and Airlines Clash Over Fare Data

In a separate development, the DGCA and major airlines—including Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet—are locked in a dispute over a demand for detailed fare data from the past two years. The regulator wants to analyze pricing trends amid complaints of skyrocketing ticket prices during peak seasons. However, airlines argue that such data is commercially sensitive and proprietary.
