Delhi-Varanasi IndiGo Flight Evacuated Following Bomb Threat: Ongoing Investigation
In a startling turn of events, an IndiGo flight bound for Varanasi from Delhi was evacuated this Tuesday morning following a bomb threat. The aircraft has since been moved to an isolated area for further investigation.
Passengers aboard the flight were seen exiting the aircraft via emergency exits in a video shared by PTI, a news agency. The scene was one of urgency but remained orderly.
Currently, aviation security and a bomb disposal squad are at the location, as confirmed by a Delhi airport official to ANI, another news agency.
IndiGo, in an official statement, confirmed the bomb threat. “Flight 6E2211 from Delhi to Varanasi received a specific bomb threat at Delhi airport. We followed all necessary protocols and moved the aircraft to a remote bay as per guidelines by airport security agencies. All passengers were safely evacuated. The flight is currently undergoing inspection. Once all security checks are completed, the aircraft will be moved back to the terminal area.”
The Delhi fire service reported, “We received news of a bomb on the flight from Delhi to Varanasi at 5:35 am today. Quick Response Teams arrived at the spot promptly.”
Delhi Airport Authorities have assured that all passengers are safe. “The flight is undergoing a detailed inspection. All passengers were evacuated without incident,” said an airport spokesperson. They promised to provide further updates as the investigation continues.
The number of passengers onboard the flight is yet to be confirmed.
This incident follows closely on the heels of a threat received by the Mumbai Police, where a caller claimed that bombs had been placed at the Taj Hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. However, nothing suspicious was found after thorough searches.
Earlier this week, the Mumbai Police control room received another bomb threat call targeting a McDonald’s outlet in Dadar. The caller claimed to have overheard a conversation about a planned attack. The police, however, found no suspicious objects at the location.
Last Wednesday, the Delhi police control room in North Block, which houses the Ministry of Home Affairs, received a bomb threat via email. This was after several schools in Delhi-NCR, Jaipur, Uttar Pradesh, and Bengaluru received similar threats, causing widespread panic. However, all these threats turned out to be hoaxes.
