In a sea of cutting-edge technology and jaw-dropping innovations, the BYD Yangwang U9 supercar has emerged as an unlikely star. While its groundbreaking “jumping suspension” system was designed to showcase engineering finesse, Indian social media users have turned the vehicle into an internet sensation for a different reason.

The car’s demo video, where it leaped forward six meters with the grace of an Olympic athlete dodging potholes, quickly went viral. Originally intended to highlight its advanced suspension capabilities—such as shock absorption, height adjustments, and dynamic maneuvering—it instead resonated with the uniquely bumpy humor of India’s online community.

One user quipped, “If this car is launched in India, it will be a flying car,” while another added, “In India, this car will always be in the air.” The memes flowed like monsoon rains, with comments ranging from “Perfect for Indian roads—just jump!” to “What if there’s another pothole where it lands?”

The playful comparisons didn’t stop there. Jokes about Fast and Furious-inspired designs and skepticism about the car’s ability to tackle multiple potholes at once peppered platforms like X (formerly Twitter).

Flying Cars Steal the Show

Adding to the futuristic buzz at CES 2025, Xpeng Aero HT unveiled its “Land Aircraft Carrier,” a hybrid of an electric minivan and a foldable eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft). While still in development, this innovative vehicle promises to soar above gridlocked traffic with the push of a button.

With a sub-$300,000 price tag and over 3,000 preorders, primarily from China, the Land Aircraft Carrier is fueling dreams of flying cars becoming a mainstream reality. Its potential spans luxury travel to emergency rescue missions, making it a versatile addition to the future of mobility.

The Road Ahead

Whether it’s BYD’s leap towards smarter suspensions or Xpeng’s flight towards a sky-bound future, CES 2025 continues to redefine what’s possible in transportation. For now, though, it seems the Yangwang U9 has found its niche—not just as a supercar but as a meme-worthy sensation with Indian social media as its biggest cheerleader.
