Bomb Threat on Indigo Flight: Aircraft Makes Full Emergency Landing at Mumbai After Bomb Threat Found in Toilet

A Jaipur to Mumbai IndiGo flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Sunday night after a bomb threat note was found inside one of the aircraft’s toilets.
The flight, numbered 6E 5324, was carrying 225 passengers when the shocking discovery was made mid-air. As per standard safety procedures, a full emergency was declared at Mumbai airport at 8:43 pm. The aircraft landed safely at 8:50 pm and was immediately moved to a remote bay to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.
“Full Emergency Declared,” Confirms Airport Authorities
Confirming the incident, Mumbai airport authorities released an official statement, reported ANI:
“A threat note was discovered in an aircraft en route from Jaipur to Mumbai. As a precaution, a full emergency was declared at Mumbai Airport at 20:43 hrs. The flight landed safely at 20:50 hrs. Airport operations remain unaffected.”
After the landing, disembarkation of passengers began under strict security supervision. The airline and security agencies were quick to respond, and the situation was handled without causing disruption to other airport operations.
IndiGo Flight Lands Safely, No Casualties Reported
Sources from PTI said, “IndiGo flight lands under full emergency conditions in Mumbai due to bomb threat.” They further added that the aircraft, after landing safely, was stationed at a distant bay as part of the security protocol.
This incident adds to the growing number of bomb threats targeting Indian airlines. According to official data presented in Parliament, India has recorded over 833 bomb threat incidents since 2020, many of which turned out to be hoaxes.
Rising Security Threats in Indian Aviation
Such threats, while often hoaxes, are taken extremely seriously. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has strict protocols in place, including coordination with law enforcement agencies and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), to ensure passenger safety without causing panic or operational chaos.
This latest bomb scare follows a series of similar incidents involving IndiGo flights, both domestic and international. In October 2024, two IndiGo flights bound for Istanbul from Mumbai and Delhi were also targeted with bomb threats, triggering emergency responses.
Safety First
While investigations into this latest incident are ongoing, passengers have praised the crew and airport authorities for their calm and professional handling of the situation.
Security at Indian airports continues to remain tight, with the aviation ministry urging airlines and airports to maintain high alert levels and follow the Bomb Threat Contingency Plan (BTCP) in all suspected cases.
