A pivotal moment in this electoral shift was the defeat of AAP’s national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, in the New Delhi constituency. Kejriwal lost to BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma by a margin of 4,089 votes, marking a dramatic turn in Delhi’s political landscape.

Who is Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma?

Parvesh Verma, born on November 7, 1977, is the son of the late Sahib Singh Verma, a former Chief Minister of Delhi. He completed his education at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, earned a Bachelor of Arts from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, and later pursued an MBA from the Fore School of Management. Verma entered politics in 2013, winning the Mehrauli seat in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. He was subsequently elected as the Member of Parliament for West Delhi in 2014 and re-elected in 2019 with a significant margin.

The people of Delhi will never make the mistake of giving a second chance to a person who runs govt by telling lies…We knew that there would be a clear-cut victory, we were just waiting for the right time. This time the people of Delhi did not let lies win…”

Campaign Against Kejriwal

In the lead-up to the 2025 elections, Verma spearheaded the “Remove Kejriwal, Save the Nation” campaign, criticizing the AAP government’s performance on various fronts, including pollution control, women’s safety, civic infrastructure, and the unfulfilled promise of cleaning the Yamuna River. His campaign resonated with voters, culminating in his victory over Kejriwal in the high-profile New Delhi constituency.

Election Outcome and Reactions

The BJP’s return to power in Delhi signifies a major shift, ending AAP’s decade-long governance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the victory, stating, “Good governance has won.” Arvind Kejriwal conceded defeat, congratulated the BJP, and expressed hope that they would fulfill their promises to the people of Delhi.

As the BJP prepares to form the new government, all eyes are on their forthcoming policies and initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the capital city.
