Bizarre Four-Vehicle Collision on Mumbai-Pune Expressway Leaves Two Injured
A multi-vehicle collision on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Panvel on Tuesday caused chaos, leaving two people injured in a bizarre sequence of events. The accident occurred in the Mumbai-bound lane under the Khandeshwar Police Station’s jurisdiction.
How the Accident Happened
The incident began when a container truck broke down on the expressway, prompting two mechanics to begin repairs. Meanwhile, a car carrying the mechanics was parked in front of the stationary truck.
As the repairs were underway, a speeding truck approached from behind. The driver failed to notice the stalled container and crashed into it, pushing the heavy vehicle into the expressway’s rolling barrier. Seconds later, a pickup tempo rammed into the truck from behind, unable to stop in time.
The impact left one of the mechanics with serious head injuries, while another person also suffered injuries. Emergency responders rushed the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Traffic Disruption and Clearance
Authorities deployed a recovery crane to remove the damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic flow. Preliminary investigations suggest poor visibility and insufficient braking distance may have contributed to the crash. Police are analyzing CCTV footage and witness statements to determine the exact cause.
