Key Highlights of the New Education Policy

  1. NCERT-Based Curriculum
Maharashtra’s textbooks, developed by Balbharati, will be modeled on NCERT guidelines. However, necessary state-specific modifications will be made to suit local requirements.
  2. CBSE-Style Examination System
The rote-learning model will be replaced with concept-based learning. Assessments will follow CBSE’s Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system, focusing on projects, assignments, and real-world applications.
  3. Maharashtra’s Cultural Identity Retained
The revised syllabus will emphasize Maharashtra’s rich cultural and historical heritage. Subjects like history, geography, and language studies will include content highlighting the state’s traditions, reformers, and historical figures.
  4. Implementation Roadmap
The rollout of the new curriculum will happen in phases from 2025 to 2028:
    • 2025: Class 1
    • 2026: Classes 2, 3, 4, and 6
    • 2027: Classes 5, 7, 9, and 11
    • 2028: Classes 8, 10, and 12
  5. No Changes to Maharashtra State Board’s Authority
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education will continue to conduct Class 10 (SSC) and Class 12 (HSC) board exams. Students and parents will retain the flexibility to choose between state board, CBSE, or other boards without compulsion.
  6. Enhancing Infrastructure & Teacher Training
The state government will invest in school infrastructure, ensuring access to drinking water, sanitation, playgrounds, and classrooms. Additionally, teacher training programs will be revamped, including bridge courses and technology-driven education modules.

Government’s Commitment to Quality Education

With strong backing from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, the state aims to transform Maharashtra’s school education system. Funding will not be a constraint in achieving the policy’s objectives.

This policy aims to equip students with 21st-century skills while preserving Maharashtra’s cultural essence. The government is committed to ensuring a smooth transition by addressing concerns from parents, teachers, and education stakeholders.
