Bengaluru Airport Surpasses 40 Million Passengers, Achieves Global ‘Large Airport’ Status
Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has reached a remarkable milestone in 2024, surpassing 40 million passengers for the year and securing a place in the Airports Council International’s (ACI) ‘large airport’ category. The airport recorded a significant jump in passenger traffic, rising from 37.2 million in 2023 to 40.73 million in 2024, showcasing its consistent growth and expanding connectivity.
Record Passenger Traffic and Busiest Day
The airport’s busiest day in 2024 was October 20, with an impressive 1,26,532 passengers passing through its terminals. On an average day, the airport saw 723 air traffic movements (ATMs), with the highest ATMs recorded on October 17, reaching 782.
Expanding Domestic and International Connectivity
By the end of 2024, Kempegowda International Airport expanded its reach to 30 international destinations and 75 domestic cities. In 2024 alone, it added 11 new domestic routes and four international connections, further strengthening its position as a crucial aviation hub in India.
The most frequented domestic routes from Bengaluru during the year were to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Pune.
Cargo Operations Show Impressive Growth
KIA also made significant strides in cargo operations, processing a total of 4,96,227 metric tonnes in 2024. This marks a robust 17% increase compared to the previous year. International cargo volume surged by 23%, while domestic cargo operations grew by 9%.
