List of India’s Top 10 Educational Institutions Revealed, Check Details
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad continues to be the top rated educational institution in the country and has secured position along with another 64 institutions in the 2004 Edition of Global 2000 list.
According to a report released on May 13 by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), Indian universities’ performance has decline in the face of increased global competition from well-funded institutions.
Aside from that, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad ranked first among India’s best performing institutes, while 64 other Indian universities and institutes made the Global 2000 list for 2024. IIM Ahmedabad rose nine places to 410th, while Indian Institute of Science fell seven places to 501st.
The report outlines how India’s increased research output has not translated into comparable success in higher education. However, looking at the movement across the ranking ladder, it was discovered that these Indian institutions had mixed results this year, with 33 falling down and 32 moving up at the same time.
When compared to the performance of leading Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across India, Bombay dropped 14 spots to 568th. IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur were also among the top ten best performers this year. IIT Madras ranked 582nd, down 12 spots, while Tata Institute of Fundamental Research ranked 606th, down 26 spots.

Dr. Nadim Mahassen, President of the Center for World University Rankings, stated that “it is clear that India’s standing in education is under increasing pressure following the rise of higher education systems from around the world.”

He continued, “While India’s global share in scientific research grew by 24% in the last five years, this has not translated to comparable success in higher education.” Nadim Mahassen stressed the importance of increased government investment in education and research.
World’s Top-Rated Educational Institution
Considering the global platform, Harvard University has secured the top spot among the world’s best performing institutes for the thirteenth consecutive year. Aside from that, Chinese educational institutions outperformed, with 95% of them rising through the ranks thanks to significant investment in R&D.

The report analyses 62 million outcome-based data points to rank universities across the world based on the following four parameters:

Up to 20,966 universities were ranked, and the top Global 2000 list includes higher education institutions from 94 countries.
