A video has been doing rounds on the internet showing a newly manufactured coach rolling out of Integral Coach Factory (ICF) of Indian Railways. This coach has all the amenities befitting a private jet such a conference room, full-size bathroom, a galley and a double bed.

This video was first seen on the Instagram account of @indianrailwayupdates with a caption, “Officers on wheel coach, tour”. Since then the video has amassed over 3000 likes. This video has been posted multiple times on different social media platforms and users are curious about the deployment of these coaches.

Seen in the video is a brand new coach rolling out of a factory and the tour of the coach reveals that it has the amenities rivalling a private jet, complete with a fully appointed galley (kitchen), a full-size bathroom, a double bed and a conference room. Also seen in the video are well appointed cabins with comfy bed bunks for accompanying staff. There is a full-size refrigerator, a microwave oven and tea/coffee dispensers.

Now whether these coaches will be used to ferry VVIPS, or senior executives of Indian Railways or for commercial charters remains unclear. It looks unlikely that these coaches will be put to regular railway duties for passengers.

The internet users posted mixed reactions on this video. One user wrote, “Looks like train from some European country 😮😮,fabulous interior”. Another user wrote, “That train Compartment looks like 1 BHK Apartment”. One user was skeptical and wrote, “Make sure you all save this video. Because this train won’t look like this once it’s functional. It will be decorated by kamala pasand, rajnigandha, khaini gutka jarda etc….”. Many users have speculated that these coaches will be used for the official travel of railway executives. If that is true, it may be a little too extravagant for Indian Railways to spend taxpayers’ money for a privileged few! Opinions can vary, though.

It is not clear where and for what duties these coaches will be deployed but surely they look like a Maharaja’s traveling saloon!
