Pune and PCMC Police Announce Prohibitory Orders u/s 144 for Polling on May 13

Pune/PCMC, May 11, 2024: The Police Commissionerates of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have announced prohibitory orders under Section 144 to ensure peaceful polling process in areas under their respective jurisdictions in Pune, Shirur and Maval Parliamentary Constituencies on May 13.

Prohibitory Orders – Pune City Police

(From 1800 hrs. May 11, 2024 to 2400 hrs. May 13, 2024)

Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Pawar, IPS has announced the following restrictions during the above mentioned period near polling stations in Shirur and Pune Lok Sabha Constituencies, falling under the jurisdiction of Pune City Police.

• Prohibition of political activists or campaign workers who are not voters from staying in the constituency where polling is scheduled for 48 hours before the polling end time.
• There are 405 polling stations Pune Lok Sabha constituency and 129 in Shirur Lok Sabha constituency. All shops, establishments and restaurants within 100 meters of these polling stations will remain closed on May 13, 2024 with the exception of emergency services.
• Unlawful gathering or holding public meetings will be prohibited during this period. Further, assembly of five or more than five people will not be allowed.
• Any violation in the above-mentioned prohibitions will be punishable under Section 188 of the IPC.

Prohibitory Orders – PCMC City Police Jurisdiction

Under the jurisdiction of PCMC City Police, polling will be held in Maval, Shirur and Pune Lok Sabha Constituencies. Voting for Baramati Constituency has already been completed peacefully on May 07, 2024.

To maintain law and order during the election period from 00.01 hrs on 04/05/2024 to 14/05/2024 24.00 hrs, PCMC Commissioner of Police Vinay Kumar Chaubey, IPS, has issued directives under Section 144 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). These directives include:

• Prohibition of the use of mobile phones, smart phones, wireless, or communication devices by individuals other than presiding officers, government officials appointed for election work, and those appointed for maintaining law and order.
• Prohibition of setting up temporary party offices within 200 meters of polling stations, especially in religious, educational establishments, or encroachments.
• Restriction on protected persons and security guards from entering within 100 meters of polling stations.
• Prohibition of setting up election booths within 200 meters of polling stations, with candidates not allowed more than one booth per building even if there are multiple polling booths in a building.
• Prohibition of campaigning within a 200-meter area of polling stations on polling day.
• Prohibition of driving vehicles within a 200-meter radius of polling stations.
• Prohibition of loudspeakers, megaphones, shouting, commotion, misbehavior, etc., within 100 meters of polling stations.
• Prohibition of political activists or campaign workers who are not voters from staying in the constituency where polling is scheduled for 48 hours before the polling end time.
• Prohibition of sending any bulk message for political propaganda from 48 hours before the polling end time.
• Prohibition of carrying any kind of arms/weapons within 200 meters of polling stations on polling day.
• Any violation in the above-mentioned prohibitions will be punishable under Section 188 of the IPC.
