Officials have been directed to submit a consolidated proposal within a month for the construction of the skywalk under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The proposed skywalk is expected to significantly boost tourism by providing a unique attraction at Malshej Ghat.

Malshej Ghat is situated close to major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nashik, and Ahmednagar. In addition to its natural beauty, the region is near popular tourist destinations such as Shivneri Fort, Harishchandragad, various waterfalls, and the Pimpalgaon Joga Dam. With the addition of the skywalk, the area is likely to witness a surge in tourist footfall, giving a further boost to local tourism.

The Tourism Department has been instructed to submit a comprehensive, joint proposal for the overall development of the region. Meanwhile, the Public Works Department (Regional) – National Highways will assess the financial feasibility of the skywalk project and submit their report accordingly.

During the meeting, officials were specifically instructed to ensure that eco-sensitive areas are excluded during the skywalk’s development. Furthermore, it was emphasized that feedback from the Forest Department must be carefully considered in the planning process. As part of environmental safeguarding measures, the Thane District Collector has been tasked with providing alternative land to the Forest Department.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar reiterated that these initiatives are aimed at boosting sustainable tourism in Malshej Ghat while maintaining ecological balance. The glass skywalk is poised to become a major attraction offering panoramic views of the Western Ghats, promoting both regional tourism and conservation efforts.
