Pune: The long-awaited construction of a foot overbridge (FOB) at the busy Chandni Chowk flyover has finally commenced. This crucial facility is expected to ease the hardships faced by pedestrians, particularly those attempting to cross the bustling highway and its service lanes.

Currently, Chandni Chowk lacks a dedicated pedestrian bridge or underpass, making it extremely challenging and risky for people to navigate across the road. Responding to these concerns, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started the project and aims to complete it within the next three months.

The foundation work for the pillars is currently underway. The launching of the frame and span will be done in phases. The proposed bridge will stretch over 100 metres, with one end landing near the wing towards Bavdhan and the other near the wing leading to Bhugaon. A column for the bridge is being constructed at the main carriageway, with NHAI planning the work to ensure there is no disruption to the traffic flow.

Former corporator from the area, Dilip Wede Patil, has requested NHAI to provide lifts or escalators on both sides of the bridge to help people, especially those carrying luggage. He also emphasized the importance of connecting the new foot overbridge to the upcoming metro station in the area. “It is essential to provide lifts, ramps, or escalators at both ends. We are in touch with the NHAI for the same,” Patil stated.
