PUNE, April 26, 2025: In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, that claimed 27 lives, the Government of India has suspended all visas issued to Pakistani nationals and directed them to leave the country by April 27. Following this directive, the Pune district administration has identified 222 Pakistani nationals residing in the district, and repatriation efforts have begun with urgency.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that the process is being executed on a war footing. “The list of Pakistani nationals in Maharashtra has been received and the process of sending them back is underway. Every police station has been informed. Care is being taken to ensure that Pakistani nationals do not stay in the state for more than 48 hours,” he said.

Out of the 222 individuals identified in Pune district, 111 are living in Pune city and another 111 in Pimpri Chinchwad, according to officials. Pune city police stated that the details of all 111 residents have been verified and necessary actions are underway.

A police official added, “Three of them have already left India amid the current situation.”

Data Compilation and Visa Categories

Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi said data collection is being carried out through coordination with the passport office and visa-issuing authorities. “All identified individuals have been informed to leave the country within the government’s stipulated deadline,” he said, adding that more individuals may be added as data compilation continues.

Dudi also clarified that many of the Pakistani nationals were in India for purposes like tourism and medical treatment. “Those on medical visas have been given time to stay until April 29,” he confirmed.

In Pimpri Chinchwad, police noted that all 111 individuals are on long-term five-year visas. There are no short-term or medical visa holders among them. Meanwhile, Pune rural police reported that there are no Pakistani nationals currently residing in rural areas of the district on valid visas.

Nationwide Deportation Drive Post-Pahalgam Attack

This large-scale identification and repatriation drive is part of a national effort following the Pahalgam terror attack, which targeted tourists and prompted the Centre to suspend all categories of Pakistani visas.

The Indian government has instructed all Pakistani nationals across the country to exit by April 27, except for medical visa holders who may remain until April 29. Local administrations, including in Maharashtra, are working intensively to enforce the new visa policy and ensure timely compliance.
