Pune: A tragic accident on JM Road claimed the life of a 65-year-old scooter rider after a teenage driver allegedly jumped a red light, leading to a fatal collision. The victim, identified as Renukadas Narayan Joshi of Deccan, succumbed to severe head injuries sustained in the crash.

Details of the Accident

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM on April 15 at Rani Jhansi Chowk on JM Road. According to CCTV footage reviewed by the Deccan Gymkhana police, a red car, driven by a 19-year-old from Sangvi, ran a red light while heading towards Ghole Road from PMC headquarters. At the same time, the signal for vehicles moving towards Garware Bridge from Sancheti Hospital had turned green, leading to the collision.

Victim’s Condition & Aftermath

Sub-Inspector Dattatray Sawant stated that Joshi fell off his scooter after the impact, stood up briefly, and complained of dizziness before being rushed to a private hospital by the teen driver and his uncle, who was in the passenger seat. Unfortunately, Joshi died under medical supervision.

Legal Action & Investigation

The police have registered a suo motu case against the teen driver for rash and negligent driving. The accused, a Class XII external student originally from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, had moved to Pune only a few months ago. His uncle claimed that the teen “did not see the red light”, but the police are still investigating.

Authorities are yet to record statements from Joshi’s family members, who have not approached the police station. Further legal proceedings are underway.
