PCMC Penalizes 60 for Illegal Water Pump Connections, Ensures Fair Supply

Pune, April 21, 2025 – The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken strict action against 60 individuals for illegally connecting electric motors or water pumps to municipal water supply lines. The crackdown aims to prevent water pressure issues in elevated areas and ensure equitable distribution across the city.
Crackdown Across Multiple Areas
Flying squads from PCMC’s water supply department conducted raids in several neighborhoods, including:
- Chinchwad, Balwant Nagar, Shiva Nagari, Sairaj Colony (21 pumps seized)
- Amrutvel Colony, Rahatani (11 pumps seized, 1 illegal connection shut)
- Bhaveshwari & Shri Kunj Colonies, More Vasti (10 pumps confiscated)
- Ganesh Nagar, Rajaram Nagar, Samta Nagar, Pawana Nagar, Dapodi areas (18 illegal pumps removed)
The operations were led by PCMC officials, including Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale-Patil and Joint City Engineer Ajay Suryavanshi, under Rule 15 of PCMC regulations, which prohibits unauthorized pump connections.
Impact on Water Supply
Illegal motor connections disrupt water pressure, particularly in higher-altitude zones, leaving many residents with low supply. Officials warn that such actions will attract penalties, especially during peak summer demand.
Authorities Urge Responsible Water Usage
Jambhale-Patil stated, “Residents must avoid unauthorized connections or face consequences.” Suryavanshi added, “PCMC ensures sufficient supply, but illegal pumps hinder fair distribution.”
The civic body continues strict enforcement to maintain uninterrupted water supply across Pimpri-Chinchwad.
