Pune, April 21, 2025 – The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a ₹15 crore initiative for preventive road maintenance ahead of the monsoon season. The civic body will use micro-surfacing technology to strengthen approximately 50 kilometres of roads across the city, aiming to minimize potholes and other monsoon-related damages.

Aniruddha Pawaskar, Head of PMC’s Road Department, confirmed that tenders for the project will be floated soon. The work will cover 3.8 lakh square meters of road surface, with ₹7.5 crore allocated each for East and West zones.

This decision follows a surge in public complaints about deteriorating road conditions post-monsoon in recent years. The PMC had previously tested micro-surfacing on Senapati Bapat Road under its ‘Mission 17’ initiative, which yielded long-lasting results.

“Roads treated with this technology remain pothole-free for three to four years and reduce long-term maintenance costs,” Pawaskar said. The PMC aims to complete the work before the rains begin, ensuring smoother and safer commutes for Pune residents.
