Platform Ticket Sales Halted in Mumbai and Pune Temporarily to Reduce Passenger Congestion

Mumbai/Pune: In a move to tackle overcrowding during the summer rush, Central Railway has temporarily halted the sale of platform tickets at key stations in Mumbai and Pune divisions. The restriction, effective from April 18 to May 15, 2025, aims to streamline passenger movement and reduce congestion.
Affected Stations
The ban applies to major stations, including:
- Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT)
- Kalyan
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)Â (Mumbai Division)
- Pune Station (Pune Division)
Exceptions to the Rule
To ensure essential travel assistance remains unaffected, platform tickets will still be issued to:
- Those accompanying senior citizens, children, or ailing passengers
- Helpers for illiterate or women passengers requiring assistance
Public Awareness Measures
Central Railway has mandated clear communication via:
- Notices at booking counters
- Regular announcements to inform passengers about the restrictions
This decision follows rising footfall during the vacation season, as reported by FPJ. Authorities stress that the measure is temporary and aimed at improving passenger safety and convenience.
